A 2020 study found that oral ascorbic acid achieved as much as twice the blood concentration in the first 10 minutes of ingestion as sodium ascorbate and maintained roughly 15-30% higher blood levels over the following 50 minutes.
10 grams of ascorbic acid was also found to achieve as much as twice the blood concentration in the first 10 minutes of ingestion as a 10 gram IV drip and stayed at relatively high levels in the blood, roughly 80% of the levels achieved over the following 50 minutes as the IV blood levels.
A 2021 study found that liposomal vitamin C was 1.77 times more bioavailable than non-liposomal C. However, at approximately $1 dollar per gram, liposomal vitamin C is 25 times more expensive thanthis non-GMO sodium ascorbate powder. We keep multiple forms on hand. The liposomal packets are nice for traveling. Dr. Levy’s personal experience and opinion is that the clinical benefit of liposomal C may be much greater, but there is no study measuring the clinical benefit of different forms of vitamin C to date.
